INFRASTAR & ESILV

Good news I have recently received from Nakorey Gimard :

She got very good final marks for her internship 🙂

This news is important for me because Nakorey was working under my supervision for a few months between March and August 2018.

As a part of my INFRASTAR PhD project, I had an interesting topic to propose for a Master internship this spring. After a few weeks of search and several interviews, we have chosen Nakorey who is a responsible and motivated student.

The topic of her work at Ifsttar was about the transversal position of vehicles and its influence on stresses in elements of an orthotropic deck of a bridge. Here, she was working with the Finite Element model of a part of the deck of the Millau Viaduct, France.

This internship helped Nakorey to gain experience of work in the academic atmosphere and to participate in research. As well, she has improved her skills in FE modelling, analyzing literature and presenting her ideas.

Obtained results can be used for computing the fatigue damage accumulation in details of a steel orthotropic deck. They show the difference between stress cycles counting with or without taking into consideration the transversal position of wheels of passing trucks.

Nakorey has done a very good job! An excellent report and only positive feedback confirm this ðŸ™‚ I am proud of her and it was a pleasure for me to work with Nakorey, and to share with her my knowledge and experience.

Finally, last month, together with Nakorey, we participated in the Poster Session at her school ESILV, Leonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering. The colorful poster was presented in front of professors of the school, other students and representatives from companies where other students completed their internshhips. We were talking about the INFRASTAR project and discussing the importance of the research in the area of fatigue and the operational life of existing bridges.

It was a nice outreach activity! ðŸ™‚

It is a great experience to manage a student project and to help others with their work!
I am happy to have used this chance during my research project :)
